Origin Story

Before Sagano blossomed into the vertical garden it is today, the beginnings of the brand sprouted from the mind of engineer and avid gardener, Marc Llona. With a creative passion, ideas, and a collection of plants that were quickly outgrowing his space, Llona set out to find a way to grow the garden he loved without having to worry about space. He fashioned a set of portable, stackable planters that could attach to any pre-existing 4x4 post, and his vision began to take shape. As his garden grew, word of Llona's post planters spread throughout the community, catching the attention of other gardeners and green thumbs looking for ways to grow beyond the limits of their space. Eventually, the buzz reached the ear of certified horticulturist, Oliver Gardner, who, inspired by the creative solution, partnered with Llona to bring his vision of an accessible, hassle-free, beautiful vertical garden to life.

After a meticulous prototyping process and successful initial introduction, Llona reached out to the founders of The Fascination to expand the brand and simplify the initial design. Together, they assembled a team of expert makers, marketers, and garders to grow the brand, the product, and the community of fans and supporters, honoring Llona's and Oliver's original mission: to reimagine gardening, and inspire gardeners to grow more using less space.

Sagano, officially launched in November of 2021, with a refined product design and just as much passion behind the brand as its initial sketch. Today, Sagano is helmed by cofounders Thea Neal and Guy Weissman, who both share the same drive to nurture innovation and build experiences that bloom, transform, and inspire.

Sagano only occupies 4 square feet, so you can enjoy clutter-free gardening with plenty of room to grow. It is a great option for those with limited space or limited mobility.

The name Sagano references the Sagano Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, Japan, a location acclaimed as one of the most breathtaking natural groves in the world. The towering, dense, and tranquil forest stretches upward, slender, elegant, and seemingly endless, into a natural canopy of green and light. Meditative, powerful, otherworldly, and alive, Sagano Forest captivates, inspires, and endures.
