Why We Love Bev

Gurl, it’s time to get your drink on — responsibly!

In today’s male-dominated alcohol industry (Yeah. Still. Don’t be fooled by the local brunch scene.), Bev is building a sugar-free wine brand made by women, for women, that celebrates and encourages female empowerment. Boasting five varietals, Rose, Gris, Blanc, Glitz, and Noir, Bev caters to a range of flavor profiles, so you can enjoy your favorite way to wine. Plus, each can is only 100 calories, has 3 carbs, and no sugar.

The TL; DR

  • Five wines; Rose, Gris, Blanc, Glitz, and Noir, all with zero sugar (buh-bye hangovers!), 3g of carbs, and only 100 calories
  • Comes in a lightweight and portable can that makes it easy to enjoy Bev anywhere
  • Woman-lead business with a focus on female empowerment
  • On a mission to create a drinking culture that is safe for everyone
  • 11% ABV, or roughly 1.5 glasses of wine per can

The Bev Origin Story

Est. 2017

Founded by Alix Peabody in May 2017, Bev is a mission-driven beverage company based in Venice, California that is making strides in the traditionally male-dominated industry with flavorful, healthier wines. While working in Silicon Valley, Peabody found out her chronic abdominal pain was an ovarian torsion, which accounts for 1% of all emergency ovary surgeries. Due to multiple, intensive surgeries, she had to decide, at 24, if she wanted to freeze her eggs. While the costs of her surgeries were covered under insurance, freezing her eggs and ensuring the healthy future of her fertility  — were not. Frozen eggs and $20,000 later, Peabody started an events company that hosted ticketed parties to pay off the debt.

Her experience in the events planning industry inspired her to build a company that helped women feel comfortable in social situations. She took money out of her 401K (not a recommended strategy) and bought 300 gallons of rosé, the first Bev varietal. While she didn’t have the license to sell the products yet, she passed them out at parties — designed by women, for women — to share her idea and generate some buzz around her new brand. The drinks caught on, and Bev was born. Five varietals and thousands of happy customers later, Bev is continuing to empower women and “break the glass” through great-tasting, sugar-free, femme-focused, socially-designed wine.

The Science of Bev

Not only do Bev’s canned drinks taste good, but with zero sugar, they are also better for you. Eliminating sugar in wine eliminates a lot of those nasty after-effects such as hangovers, headaches, and grogginess. Each drink comes in an easy to carry, not to mention fun and colorful, Bev-branded can that contains only 3 carbs and roughly 160 calories. Each can is about 1.5 glasses of wine, or 11% ABV,  so it’s perfect when you want a glass (and a half) without having to open a full bottle.

The Soul of Bev

For Bev, Made by Chicks isn’t just a catchphrase stamped on their wine cans, but a quality embedded into Bev’s brand, culture, and bubbly, socially-centered wines. Led by a female winemaker, CEO, and Founder, Bev is challenging the male-dominated alcoholic beverage industry by “breaking the glass,” one brightly-colored can at a time.

Bev supports and inspires woman-lead businesses while creating their own product that disrupts an industry with few women in leadership positions. Bev’s mission is to build a more inclusive, respectful drinking culture; something that is incredibly important to ensure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and in control of their own fun. With values like vulnerability, candor, accountability, kindness, and passion, Bev continues to empower women by encouraging them to challenge gendered traditions and support each other.
