BRAND
★★★★★
Ruggable was the first washable rug company on the market. The fact that they partner with many different philanthropic organizations to give back doesn’t hurt either.
Who Is Ruggable?
Ruggable was founded by Jeneva Bell in 2009 when her dog soiled her expensive area rug. She was tired of having expensive items, like her rug, ruined by not having the ability to clean them effectively. She knew there had to be a better way, so she set her sights on creating an entirely washable rug.
It took her 8 years, with a lot of sleepless nights, trying to get the concept, design, and patent for her two-piece rug system. Once she was finally able to get everything in line, including production, Ruggable was born.
Their rugs detach from a separate rug pad that can then be easily reattached after they are dry. Once a consumer has a Ruggable rug pad, they can actually buy any of their interchangeable rug covers.
If the idea of a washable rug wasn’t enough, Ruggable partners with multiple different philanthropic organizations also. Ruggable wants to help positively impact many people’s lives as much as possible. They do this by working with organizations that help find pets a safe home, since Jeneva knows how important pets are to the family environment.
The 2 organizations they are currently partnered within this genre are Best Friends Animal Society and Face Foundation.
Ruggable doesn’t stop with pets either, though. They know that every home should feel safe and secure and want to help as much as possible to achieve this through their rugs. Ruggable does this by partnering with A Sense of Home, Baby2Baby, and Chicago Furniture Bank.
Lastly, on the philanthropy front, Ruggable is doing their part to help offset carbon emissions by partnering with OneTreePlanted. Their goal last year was to grow 100,000 trees, but they only made it to 50,000, unfortunately. However, every little bit counts and it’s more than I can say for a lot of companies.

Ruggable Performance & Feel
The first thing I noticed about my new Ruggable washable rug was how fast it showed up. It arrived on my front porch only 3 days after I submitted my order, which is crazy fast! Getting the rug out of the packaging was almost as easy as ordering it. All I had to do was slide the rug out of the box, lay it flat and unroll the separate rug pad.
The hardest part of the whole process was getting the rug pad and the rug topper attached. It could have just been user error, but I had a pretty difficult time lining them up perfectly. And since the rug pad uses their cling technology (similar to a yoga mat with static cling), once I started putting the topper down it stuck pretty tightly.
I’m sure this is something I will get better at through time.
After my initial fight getting everything lined up, though, the rug was phenomenal. To really test out the Ruggable rug to the fullest, we put the rug in our highest traffic area for a few weeks. We also let our dog hang out on it as much as possible to really see what would happen.
The rug did a great job of not picking up debris or absorbing spills. This is due to its water-repellent nature. Ruggable rug toppers are purportedly made of 95% recycled polyester, which is what creates that feature. Which is fantastic, except when you wash the rug and don’t realize it’s created a pocket in the washing machine.
This is exactly what happened to me the first time I washed my Ruggable rug. I went to take it out of the washing machine to hang dry and ended up with about a half-gallon of water all over myself and the floor. This is just something to keep in mind, but is certainly not a deal-breaker.
Is Ruggable Good Quality?
Ruggable washable rugs are made of mostly polyester materials, which means they are made to last for quite some time. The fact that Ruggable offers a 1-year limited warranty on the workmanship of their products doesn’t hurt either.
However, it’s difficult to determine where exactly Ruggable rug covers and the rug pads are actually manufactured. And this can have a large effect on the overall quality and longevity of a product.
According to their website, all of the rugs are made to order and put together in their California or Chicago locations. However, Ruggable does say that they import the materials from overseas. So, it’s possible that the rug covers and pads are actually made overseas and just put together here in the States.
There was a recall a few years ago on 3 models of their rugs that were manufactured in China. These 3 models failed to meet the federal guidelines for the flammability standard. Ruggable replaced the defective rugs at no charge, but it stands to question whether or not they still manufacture their products in the same plant or not.
Is Ruggable Worth It?
Ultimately, Ruggable washable rugs are fairly inexpensive for what you get. If you have children or pets and need the capability to wash your rug, these are a fantastic option. It can be difficult to find rugs with this much style for anywhere close to the initial price point Ruggable offers. And with a 1-year limited warranty, it’s hard to go wrong with giving them a try.
Just the ability to take the rug topper off and pop it in the washing machine is worth it alone for me. That convenience, plus not having to pay a professional to come and clean my carpet, makes this almost a no-brainer in my book.
If the initial price tag is still a bit steep for your wallet, Ruggable does offer a financing option through Afterpay. This company will allow US-based customers to make 4 installment payments instead of one lump sum payment. Therefore, this option may make Ruggable an even more viable option for those it may not have been within reach for previously.
Ruggable Coupons & Discounts
Ruggable offers an initial 15% off discount if you refer a friend and they make a purchase.
That’s just a teaser to get you interested, though. Ruggable also offers you a mystery deal if you sign up for their email list. It’s traditionally been a 10% discount off of your purchase, but seems to vary every now and then.
Ruggable has also started their own rewards program for loyal consumers called Spill™Club. When you join Spill™Club you can get special offers, members-only exclusives, earn points, etc.
FAQs
Before any consumer decides to purchase a higher-end rug, there are bound to be questions. And since Ruggable is a slightly different type of rug company, there are more specific questions that need to be answered prior to a purchase.
Ruggable Washable Rugs Summary
Overall, Ruggable washable rugs are a great solution to anybody who wants to have a little bit of style, but also have children or pets. If you’re fiscally conscious also, then Ruggable is probably right up your alley.
They constantly have new style offerings to choose from, so getting a new rug cover to switch things up a bit is made just that much easier with Ruggable. When it comes to a company offering diversity, style, ease of use, comfort, and vast philanthropy it’s difficult to find another company that rivals Ruggable in this space.
