OffCourt Body Spray Review: Upscale Men's Deodorant

OffCourt was founded in 2020 by the husband and wife team of Jonathan Lawrence and Bani Bahari. A few years ago Jonathan’s tastes for things began to sway towards the more refined and upscale. At this point he noticed that once you graduated from Axe body spray as a teenager or young adult, there was nowhere else to go.

The body sprays geared towards adults just didn’t smell great, weren’t as effective as he’d like, and didn’t have a strong brand identity. So, the pair discussed this hole in the market and set out to change it.

Bani has a background as a strategy and operations analyst, so she put her skills to work and began creating market research. Her findings came back with a lot of useful information, including that men didn’t want to pay more than $12 for body spray.

Even though they wanted something more sophisticated that worked well in a myriad of situations. So, this helped the couple determine their entry price point in order to get their products out to consumers to try.

The vision they have is admirable for all of those adult men who’ve been missing a good smelling body spray. But, the company lacks any other mission or philanthropy to help create a better world with their product. And that is something I generally like to see more attention to when it comes to companies geared towards adults, since we’re usually more socially minded.

As a person who lives in a warmer region of the country and exercises regularly, body odor is something I’m familiar with. But it’s not something I enjoy. So, I’m always on the lookout for good products that work well to get rid of odor and not just mask it, that also smell good. And when I mean smell good, I mean also to my wife and not just myself.

So, when I heard about this newer company, OffCourt, and their use of prebiotics to help reduce odor for longer, I just had to give them a shot.

The ordering process was quick and easy through their website. I decided to go with the Performance Body Spray Trio Pack so that I could try all of the different scents. 

I wanted to really put these products to the test so I used this body spray after exercising over the course of multiple weeks. Every time I used it it did a great job of neutralizing the smell that came from sweating. Plus it had the added effect of making me smell great, which my wife didn’t mind.

I love that it’s vegan, cruelty-free, prebiotic, aluminum free, and they don’t do animal testing. I wouldn’t have been able to test this if it wasn’t all of those.

When I sprayed my armpits with this product the first time, I noticed a cold blast, accompanied by a fantastic scent.

The brand claims it works wonders after you’ve been sweating from a workout, which I can attest to. But, I found that if I put it on before working out it seemed even more effective at keeping me smelling great. I believe this is due to how the prebiotics work at keeping the bacteria inactive by changing the pH, so they can’t produce odors to begin with.

It’s even great when not using it during exercise just to spray in the morning. I did this multiple times when I knew I was going to be outdoors all day or had a day full of meetings. It really made all the difference.

I don’t typically use body spray normally, so I was really surprised with how much I liked this product. The only problem I really ran into was that it’s not labeled with the fragrance description on the bottle, so I didn’t know which scent was which.

At some point I just decided that the dark bottle was the best smelling one for me. I found out recently that this one is the Coconut Water + Sandalwood scent due to their recent re-labeling of all the products. 

It appears that this was the major complaint they’d been receiving, so they now have all of the products properly labeled with the associated scent. Therefore, I have nothing left to complain about regarding the performance of OffCourt body spray. This has become one of my favorite go-to’s for getting rid of body odor and I love how it makes me feel.

Offcourt touts having a smaller ingredients list, which is fantastic. While they don’t directly let the consumer know where their fragrances are sourced from, we were able to get some more in-depth information directly from the brand about this. Since they are primarily a fragrance brand, they chose their fragrance partners very carefully, which is admirable.

On this particular point, Offcourt has partnered with both Symrise and IFF to create and manufacture their fragrances. Symrise is a top global fragrance company that also has an interest in sustainability, which I really love to see. IFF is based here in the United States, and is also great at responsible sourcing, sustainability, and ethical work practices.

While this information isn’t that readily available for the general consumer to see, I do love that they have chosen high-quality partners to help create their custom line of body sprays. This speaks to the potential quality of the overall product.

Ultimately, in order to instill full confidence in myself and potentially other nitpicking consumers, it would be nice to see a bit more transparency regarding this as well as their quality control methods.

From everything I’ve read and all my interactions with the company thus far, I have every faith that they will get to this point of creating more transparency. It just may take a bit more time for everything to come to fruition. But if the rest of their practices are like the two fragrance manufacturers they’ve chosen, then these are certainly higher-quality products.

Since the price point is pretty spot on, it’s hard to not give OffCourt a try. With their diverse scent options and 48-72 hour odor killing body sprays, it’s a pretty easy sell. However, if you’re more socially minded, you may want to wait a bit before diving in.

OffCourt doesn’t regularly offer discounts or coupons since their products have been strategically priced to begin with. However, if you join their mailing list, it’s entirely probable that you’ll get a discount code off your first order. After that, the chances seem slim for repeated discount options.

Overall, OffCourt has created a pretty ingenious line of upscale men’s body spray. This product line is meant for adult males with a slightly more refined taste. These guys want to look and smell good, but don’t want to break the bank doing it. And they want to make sure the products they are using work well and don’t just mask odors. OffCourt has hit all of those points successfully and created a good beginning product line.

It doesn’t hurt that their products are vegan, cruelty-free, TSA approved for travel, and aluminum free. However, they could do a much better job of being more socially aware and creating a positive influence in the world around them. If this is something that’s important to you, you may want to wait a beat to see if they get on board with those ideals. Sooner rather than later, hopefully.
