We’re big fans of functionality – as are most parents who need clear ways to do more with less time and only two hands. Lalo’s The Chair functions as a high chair for babies 4 months+, or when they’re able to sit up unassisted. The high chair can be used until they’re 3 years old, giving it many years of use for the same or multiple kiddos.
Once your little is 1 year old, they can safely transition into the Play Chair if you’ve purchased the Full Kit or the legs separately. The Play Chair turns the high chair into a sleek mini seat that can be pulled up to a table for meal time, engaging in learning activities or partaking in arts and crafts. It’s worth noting that The Play Chair is designed to work with shorter, child-sized tables – meaning you’ll need to purchase one from Lalo or another brand if you want the chair to slide beneath a sturdy surface.

Stokke’s Tripp Trapp is intended for babies 6 months+ and similarly is meant for high chair use until age 3. With an adjustable seat and footplate, the high chair is designed to support your child as he or she grows – and when used as a chair can support an adult up to 242 lbs. What seems appealing is theory might not be as practical as it sounds – or at least wouldn’t be a reason to trade a Tripp Trapp for The Chair.
Most parents shopping for their baby aren’t going to turn their little one’s high chair into an extra adult chair at the table since – besides not matching the rest of your dining setup – the Tripp Trapp serves more as a perch with little back support when fully transitioned as opposed to an ergonomically supportive chair. In that sense, it’s better to opt for Lalo’s The Chair where your little one can have full autonomy of their play and eating area while feeling like the big kid they eventually will be.
