The Western Rise Story
Kelly and Will Waters were working their best lives as outdoor guides in Vail, Colorado, but realized that they were constantly overpacking with sports branded clothing wear in order to be prepared for every occasion.
Frustrated with the poor-fitting quality and lack of simplicity in their performance wear for everyday, Kelly and Will went back to their textile roots to find a solution. Their family history included three generations of textile design and manufacturing and with this knowledge they set out to create clothing that would be useful for everyday use, traveling, and outdoor excursions.

Western Rise Pant & Shirt Reviews
The Evolution Pant are some of the best pants I’ve ever worn, hands down. The Evolution sports Evolution Fabric that is made up of hundreds of air-texturized Nylon spun by Supplex technology into a stronger yarn.
This yarn creates a 2-way stretch increasing durability and breathability while keeping its lightweight quality. The Evolution also has six different color options (although I chose Navy) and is highly functional, breathable and has great stretchability allowing me to feel comfortable in a “skinny pant” for what seemed like the first time.
It’s super, super lightweight in feel and design and looks primed for those casual, outdoor affairs. There’s also a phone pocket and a zipper pocket allowing these “everyday” pants to continue doing more with less.
If I had one criticism to make, it would be the length. Make sure to check the Size Guide and then the Fit Guide wording carefully. This goes for the AT Slim Pant below as well. Western Rise makes the garment size for pants two sizes bigger than your measurement size.
The wording was different on both guides, which confused me and I ended up getting my actual waist size on the garment guide which actually meant I got pants two sizes smaller.
Not to be a broken record, but AT Slim Pant looks and feels the best as well. The AT Slim sports five colors while I chose Flat Black. The overall aesthetic definitely felt more geared towards the office-work day, but still functional and breathable.
The AT is 5x more durable than denim thanks to the AT cloth: Half the weight, AT cloth is 97% air-textured Nylon and 3% Spandex creating comfort and mobility at all times for your day. It also has a phone pocket and zipper pocket respectfully and goes well with any casual or dress top your closet may be holding.
Everything that I tried on from Western Rise was a great fit, but my absolute favorite was the Limitless Merino Button Down. The Limitless Fabric here is made from Australian Merino Wool and Polyester yarn to give it its signature 4-way stretch, odor and wrinkle-resistant quality, and smooth texture.
The odor resistance I ended up testing by working with the temperature on high from the cold weather and I sweat easily, but no embarrassing underarm stains. The moisture-wicking material really works, the shirt smelled exactly as it did in the morning and evening and I didn’t catch any noticeable wrinkles.
I never wanted to take the shirt off. My button-down came in the Light Blue, but there are Smoke and Concrete colors if you’re looking to go with a more neutral look. Pair with any pants or jeans and you’ll be set.
The X Cotton Henley felt fantastic. Great for lounging or everyday outdoor use, the X Cotton is extremely comfortable and great as an underlayer for winter gear with its own moisture-wicking fabric and odor resistance.
More of a heavyweight than the others, The X Cotton Fabric is 60% Cotton, 35% polygiene polyester, and 5% Elastane allowing consistent smells, soft textures, and extreme stretchability.
As an extra highlight, it’s also the cheapest of the four items for only $68 dollars so if you’re looking to save, then that’s your best bet. Unfortunately, it only comes in two color options: Concrete and Black.
How’s Western Rise’ Quality?
The quality level is superior to other brands you’ll find in retail for the same or lesser price. The quality and versatility of their four unique fabrics power each item of clothing they manufacture.
That takes time, dedication, and a commitment to test their products durability for an active lifestyle. The caliber of their materials will keep your clothing in great condition, provided you stick to how they need to be washed and dried.
Is Western Rise Worth It?
Yes. But I also believe that depends on what you’re purchasing. Western Rise has created items meant to replace your everyday wear that is consistent. I believe that warrants the high price since that is exactly what I happened to do with my wardrobe. I started wearing the Evolution and AT Pant instead of Jeans just due to the comfort and casual nature I wanted in my day.
The moisture-wicking alone for the Limitless Merino and the X Cotton Henley were far too good to pass up, and I found myself wearing both for days on end.
Western Rise’ work with Climate Neutral is also a worthwhile endeavor to support and compliment because of its dedication to ridding the earth of greenhouse gas emissions. Knowing exactly how each action we take can contribute to climate change gives us the means to prevent it allowing us to invest in a healthier, more sustainable world.
How Does Western Rise Fit?
Once you get the right size, the fit is excellent. However, you’re going to want to read the size guide carefully. As I stated above, every single item has breathability and stretchability, but for the pants that do run a size smaller you’re going to want to check the size guide thoroughly and maybe purchase a size up if you want a roomier fit.
Initially, I ordered my normal size without reading the size guide and the fit wasn’t even close (I looked like I was ready for high waters). It’s unclear if this is all Western Rise pieces or just the pants, but the shirts ended up true to size. In any case, read the size guide to double-check and don’t assume your typical size is the right size.
How To Wash Western Rise?
Evolution Pant/AT Slim Pant – Both pants have a Durable Water Repellent application that requires them to be washed less frequently and only in cold temperatures. Under no circumstances are you to use fabric softener, bleach or use dry cleaning for care as these products will damage the pants.
In some occasions, the pants may shrink due to heat from tumble drying. This is natural and can be fixed by either stretching out the pants or by normal wear.
Limitless Merino Button Down – This is also something you’ll never want to bleach or dry clean. You’ll wash with like colors on cold with mild detergent. Wool detergent is preferred. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry low, but you may experience shrinkage if you choose the 2nd option.
X Cotton Henley – Make sure to wash with like colors no matter which color option you choose to purchase. There may be a half size shrinkage after your first wash/dry but no more than that and you’ll want to tumble dry on low.
