BRAND

This brand is helping smaller coffee shops hit the map nationally, as well as increasing awareness to some of the best smaller roasters in the country. They also compost all coffee grounds on their end for added sustainability and don’t contribute to waste like plastic pods do.

Who is Cometeer?

Cometeer was founded by Matthew Roberts in 2012. He wanted to come up with a better way to create delicious coffee without the waste of the more traditional plastic pods that were flooding the marketplace.

He wanted to create a product line that focused more on the uniqueness of individual roasting partners, roasting techniques, and roasting styles. The way he chose to go about this was to create relationships with some of the best smaller roasters in the nation and have them source the beans for their overall end product. Ultimately, he wants to create a de-commoditization for the coffee industry and is doing so by creating these relationships and selling his coffee directly to the consumer without any middleman.

Pros

  • Sourced from some of the country’s best roasters
  • Convenient and easy to use
  • Delicious!
  • Extreme diversity
  • No clean up required
  • Fully recyclable pods
  • Flexible subscription options

Cons

  • Can’t choose the exact blends you want in your box
  • Must be home to receive shipment since they need to go directly into the freezer

Cometeer Taste And Experience

As a huge coffee connoisseur, I am always looking for the best beans I can find. This is especially true because I am a rare breed of person who actually likes the taste of coffee itself and not all of the other junk that is thrown into it. So, finding actual good beans can be a challenge. Not to mention, while supporting local coffee shops is great, my wallet is not a huge fan.

Therefore, when I heard about Cometeer and the interesting technique they use to create and keep the most flavor from each bean, I was intrigued. When I first went to their website, they had a lot of information regarding how their process works, which I loved. But, they also had this little “Get Started” section that asked me about my coffee preferences in order to choose the best options for me.

The first question they asked about how I take my coffee was harder for me to answer, because most of the time I prefer just a spot of unsweetened coconut cream, which wasn’t an option. So, I chose the “All Kinds of Ways” option since I’m open to exploring new ways to enjoy coffee.

Due to that selection, the following was their recommendation for me (along with a 25% discount for my first box!):

I decided to just go with it and see how I liked each one. When the box finally arrived, I had the hardest time choosing which one to try first and how to try it. So, I simply decided to close my eyes, pick a pod and pour hot water over it, as the directions stated for hot coffee.

The Pod melted as soon as I poured hot water over it and then it was time for me to enjoy. I didn’t have to wait for it to brew like other brewing methods, which was awesome. Even better? It was one of the best cups of coffee that has ever crossed my lips and there wasn’t even anything adorning it! And unlike a french press or pour over coffee, there was no mess for me to clean up after I made my coffee. I just threw the pod in the recycling and could enjoy my drink.

Over the next few days, I tried using the pods for a variety of different applications. These included:

  • Cold Brew
  • Hot Latte
  • Cold Latte
  • Espresso Martini
  • Ice Cream Pour Over

It didn’t matter which application I used, these pods were beyond delicious every time. I love that I can wake up and decide what type of coffee drink I want to make without even having to leave my house.

Whether I’m in a cold brew mood or want a fancy latte, Cometeer has it covered. I even tried my standard splash of unsweetened coconut cream and was delightfully surprised at how much better this coffee tastes than even the best beans I had been able to find to date. And I love the fact that they can be kept in the freezer for over a year so that I don’t have to worry about whether or not my beans are stale. Ultimately, this is one of my best finds of the year and I couldn’t be happier with my experience thus far.

Is Cometeer a Quality Product?

Cometeer sources their products from some of the best smaller roasters across the country. These roasters have refined their techniques to create some of the best beans on the market currently. While each roaster has a slightly different reason for what they do, some of them are extremely passionate about paying fair wages and ethical treatment of workers.

All of the roasters are passionate about sourcing the best beans from around the world. And a few of them are really passionate about transparency regarding their supply chain, which has been leading to other roasters doing the same thing. All of these things speak to the high quality product that Cometeer is ultimately producing.

The fact that Cometeer uses completely aluminum coffee pods helps reduce this company’s carbon footprint and increases their overall sustainability. They also send all of their coffee grounds for composting to help regenerate the land, which is a much more admirable practice than throwing them in the garbage.

Is Cometeer Worth It?

If you’re a huge coffee fan, and actually want to taste your coffee, then Cometeer is probably well worth the $2 price tag per pod. This is especially true if you find yourself regularly hitting up the local coffee shop for their craft concoctions – those drinks can run up to $10 a pop if you’re not careful! So, for much less than that, you can make your own craft beverages at home that probably tastes as good (if not better) and has better ingredients.

It doesn’t hurt that the pods will keep their high level of freshness and flavor in the freezer for about 18 months. And the fact that they’re fully recyclable and sustainable only helps increase their overall value.

Cometeer Fresh Coffee Pods Summary

Overall, Cometeer has been a happy surprise for me this year. I love having it in my freezer and being able to choose what type of drink I want to make each day. While the initial price tag of the subscription halted me a bit, it ultimately didn’t deter me when I broke down the per cup price. And, I am so happy that I found them because the coffee is on a whole different level than any other coffee I’ve run across to date.

This even applies to the roasters they use for this process, because I’ve had some of their beans previously. While I liked the individual roasters okay, their beans didn’t taste anything like the Cometeer coffee. So, there is something about the process that just enhances the flavors so much.

Ultimately, if you are a coffee lover like me and really want to taste your coffee for what it is, this is certainly a product worth trying. Even if you don’t choose to drink it every day, the versatility, flavor, value, and sustainability makes it worth it.
