Underclub Origin Story
Katie Fritts, the founder of Underclub, was working in investment banking in mergers and acquisitions but dreamed of using her business skills to create and grow a company. In grad school, working on a project about women’s self-care, Fritts learned that many women didn’t have positive experiences buying underwear. Whether it was having the same pair of underwear for years, not finding styles that they liked, or buying pieces for their partner’s needs rather than their own, women dreaded shopping for underwear, an experience that could be empowering.
Fritts wanted to turn the chore of underwear shopping into a treat, and she created a subscription where she would match a style questionnaire to ethically created, comfortable and stylish underwear brands. She put special emphasis on seeking out female-owned businesses, ethical and fair trade designers, and the highest quality products available to offer as part of the subscription. She also ensured that Underclub served all women and promoted body positivity, and chose to offer products in sizes XS-4XL.
