The Bottom Line

Investing in the right high quality bedding can have a big impact on your overall mental and physical health. The right comforter specifically can elevate your sleep experience, but the wrong one can lead to uncomfortable and disrupted sleep. We’ve all been there where we’ve woken up in the middle of the night hot and sweaty, unable to fall back asleep and feeling groggy when our alarm goes off in the morning. With hundreds of online bedding brands, it’s hard to know the best brand to choose, especially when you’re unable to feel and experience the products yourself. We searched the web to find the best comforters available, and challenged our team to choose between two top online bedding brands, Sunday Citizen’s Snug Comforter and Parachute’s Cloud Comfort Quilt, using only the information we could find on the web.

After comparing countless customer reviews, industry articles and the claims of the brands themselves, we're here to share our top pick. Find out why Sunday Citizen’s Snug Comforter is The Fascination's top pick for the best comforter and read the research and customer reviews that convinced us.

WHO IS SUNDAY CITIZEN?

Sunday Citizen was founded in 2018 by Mike and Michelle Abadi. After partnering with luxury hotel owners, they decided to develop the perfect blanket that was both extremely soft and machine-washable.

After resounding success with the hotel guests who were literally checking out with their blankets in their bags, the pair decided to form Sunday Citizen and share the softness with the nation. They moved to China for two years to work with the manufacturers and create the best products in high-quality and ethical factories. In order to create their products, they worked with textile manufacturers to create their own unique fabric blends. But they’ve always stayed true to those original goals: extremely soft and machine-washable.

Since launch, they’ve branched out and started offering more bedding options as well as towels and an extremely soft clothing line so you can wear the softest blanket in the world as a sweatshirt or short set. You’ll feel like you’re on cloud nine.

Sunday Citizen

Sunday Citizen puts an emphasis on creating products that are not only high quality, but also environmentally friendly. They’re always looking for even more ways to become more sustainable, and have been implementing more eco-friendly practices, but what they currently have is approved by Mother Earth herself. They use recycled plastic in their blankets (up to 60 bottles in every comforter!) and recycled cardboard in all of their packaging. They prioritize sustainable fabrics like bamboo in all their materials and offset all delivery emissions to be carbon neutral. Each piece is intentionally designed from durable fabrics and tested to uphold years of wear and tear. Sunday Citizen also regularly engages in philanthropy such as giving away over $200,000 worth of product to the Salvation Army and at the local level with donations to Beds For Kids in Charlotte.

ABOUT THE SUNDAY CITIZEN SNUG COMFORTER

So their brand seems to pass the sustainability and mission focused test, but do their products hold up? Let’s take a deeper look into Sunday Citizen’s bestselling Snug Comforter. Dubbed the softest blanket in the world, it’s available in five forms: Original, Quilted, Basketweave, Waffle, and Duvet so you can choose what works best for your space.

Their original comforter is available in 13 different colors designed to fit seamlessly into any home decor and elevate the look. It comes in all bed sizes – from twin to California King, so you can get one for every bed in your house. Whether you’re looking for plain white beachy vibes or vibrant colors to brighten up your space, Sunday Citizen’s Snug Comforter will enhance any aesthetic.

What makes the Snug Comforter stand out? Their signature, buttery soft fabric that feels unlike any other comforter. The top side of the fabric is made out of the soft Snug material and the bottom side is made out of natural viscose from sustainable bamboo. Sunday Citizen knows comfort and temperature are one in the same when it comes to sleeping, so they specifically made one side of the comforter out of cooling fabric. It is filled with breathable, plush filling, which is thermoregulating. It wraps around your body to keep you at the perfect temperature all night long. So when you use Sunday Citizen’s comforter, you can say goodbye to sweating all night long!

Oh, and did we mention the Snug Comforter is machine washable? Say goodbye to the dry cleaner and their expensive bills – Sunday Citizen’s Snug Comforter is incredibly easy to wash without losing its softness. When designing the comforter, the Sunday Citizen team knew that accidents and spills happen, so they emphasized creating a machine washable blanket that didn’t lose its softness after every wash. So you don’t have to worry about ruining the blanket when you curl up with a glass or wine on the couch or even eat a snack in bed (no judgment here!).

Wait, you’re still here? We thought you’d be running to get the Sunday Citizen Snug Comforter by now. If you still need some convincing, let’s take a deeper look at one of your other options, Parachute’s Cloud Cotton Quilt, to see how the Snug Comforter holds up in comparison.

ABOUT PARACHUTE

Like me, you may have first heard about Parachute when listening to a podcast ad. Founded by Ariel Kaye in 2014, Parachute aimed to make high-quality bedding through sustainable processes at a time when the online bedding market was just starting. Since then, Parachute has grown to sell a variety of home products, expanding their bedding line and also moving into other places in the home – including bath, furniture, decor, and more.

Parachute focuses on clean and modern aesthetics, opting for solids and neutral colors rather than prints and bright colors, but their focus is on their sustainable materials. Parachute products are Oeko-Tax certified, which means they are made without harmful chemicals or synthetics. They’re made in ethical factories around the world. They’re Climate Neutral Certified and looking to become certified carbon neutral by Earth Day 2022 like Sunday Citizen is. Sunday Citizen uses recycled water bottles in their blankets, and Parachute has said on their website that they will start their first circular program, reusing their old and recycled pillows to make new ones, at some point in 2022.

About Parachute

Parachute has pushed themselves to continue to innovate in sustainability and have published their long term sustainability goals on their website. But while Parachute has undeniably led the way in sustainability when they first came onto the scene, many brands, like Sunday Citizen, have risen to the challenge and met them to create more sustainable practices.

PARACHUTE'S CLOUD COTTON QUILT

Parachute doesn’t offer a comforter option specifically so we looked at their bestselling Cloud Cotton Quilt. It’s a lightweight quilt made out of 100% Turkish cotton and poly batting fill, and it’s available in four neutral colors - Steel and Smoke, Natural and Ivory, Smoke and Blush, and White.

The Cloud Cotton Quilt looks very lightweight, which immediately made us think it would be good for warmer climates. But according to the reviews, you can wrap yourself up in a burrito and it would keep you really warm – so much so you may overheat! There was nothing in reviews or on the PDPs that spoke about moisture wicking or thermoregulating qualities, which was a bit worrying to this hot sleeper, especially as we head into the summer months.

While the blanket looked great and the reviews made me hopeful, the biggest thing that made me pause was around the care for the blanket. While the page says the blanket is machine washable, we found reviews on the site that note some people ruined their blankets when trying to wash it in a machine. Therefore dry cleaning would probably be the safest option, even though it’s not the most ideal.
