The Bottom Line

If you're looking to upgrade your old, sagging mattress, or you bought a cheap foam mattress on Amazon and you're ready to trade up, a Leesa mattress is going to be one of your best bets. Leesa has managed to design insanely comfortable mattresses for a range of sleepers that rival competitors costing twice as much.

We tested the Leesa Hybrid Mattress (now called the Sapira Hybrid) for ourselves and simply put, it is an incredible mattress for the price – thousands less than comparable competitors – and offers an amazing night's sleep.

For these reasons, Leesa's Sapira Hybrid Mattress is our Top Mattress Pick for 2022.

The Sapira Hybrid is Leesa's premium hybrid mattress product, a step up from the original multilayer memory foam mattress they started with. The Sapira Hybrid combines individually-wrapped pocket spring coils with memory foam and pressure-relieving top layers to provide incredible comfort, pressure relief and support.

The Sapira Hybrid comes with a 100-night risk free trial, free shipping and returns and is available for 0% APR financing through Affirm.

The Sapira Hybrid Mattress is the perfect option for those looking to upgrade their old, sagging mattress or cheaper foam options to a more premium, luxurious feel with better pressure relief and support. When we switched out our mattress for the Hybrid, we slept deeper, felt more rested and just loved getting into bed every night.

If you're looking for an incredibly-priced mattress that won't cost you multiple thousands, the Sapira Hybrid is probably our #1 pick.

Every body is different, we get that. That said, Leesa's approach to mattress construction is one of "universal adaptive feel." In short, the mattress works great for almost every body – regardless of your body type or sleep style.

We do think that very heavy people (over 275 lbs) may look to a maximum support mattress. Otherwise, whether you're a back, stomach or side sleeper, the mattress should provide you with amazing support and pressure relief.

If you are on a tight budget, you should look at the Leesa Original Mattress. It's still amazingly comfortable, but it's under $1,000 and has tens of thousands of 5-star reviews.

Ordering and Unboxing The Sapira Hybrid Mattress

Leesa makes the process of mattress buying downright fun. Compare it to the horrible experience of buying a mattress in a store in the 90s. It's night and day. The website is slick and does a great job of laying out Leesa's full lineup of options.

As you can see below, with decent credit, we were able to easily qualify for 0% APR for 12 months. On a queen Sapira Hybrid, that's $133 / month payment with no interest. We thought this was amazing, and pretty much a no brainer?

The shipping was surprisingly fast for such an oversized package. We were pleasantly surprised to find that, after ordering our mattress on a Monday, it was on our doorstep that Thursday evening. From reading through pages of their reviews, it seems 3 days is pretty standard in terms of shipment time.

As far as unboxing goes, the process was really quite simple. The box is heavy, but if you're an able-bodied adult you should be able to shimmy and slide it into the bedroom of your choice. If you're going up stairs, we definitely recommend a second pair of hands.

This is how it works:

  • Put your vacuum-sealed mattress onto your foundation / bed frame
  • Use a box cutter to carefully cut the outer plastic layers, leaving the mattress sealed in the inner plastic
  • Unfold the plastic-wrapped mattress and position flat across your foundation
  • Cut across the bottom of the plastic seal and watch as your mattress slowly inflates with air
  • Throw away all the plastic & turn on a fan or open a window to allow for offgassing of foams

Is the Sapira Hybrid Mattress Comfortable?

Put simply, hell yes it is!

I'm a side sleeper (mostly), and I was slightly worried that the mattress would be too firm for me. Not the case. My hips and shoulders gently sink in and support me just enough. The mattress feels plush, but supportive. The edge support is also fantastic. It doesn't collapse when you sit on it like the cheaper all-foam options tend to do.

Is the Sapira Hybrid Mattress a Good Value?

We've owned, tested and slept on all the Leesa competitors. And in terms of value for money, you can't beat the Leesa Hybrid. It stands up to competitors priced ~30% more, including Purple, Casper and Saatva.

The Full Leesa Mattress Lineup: Which mattress is best for you?

For this review, I chose to go with the Sapira Hybrid, which delivers the perfect balance of firmness and cushion and is an undeniably perfect fit for my personal sleep style. I sleep in all different positions, and the Hybrid completely adapts to my body without sinking in too much. It literally feels like laying on a cloud (but, like, a really supportive cloud).

However, the Hybrid isn’t the only mattress in Leesa’s lineup (and now I clearly need more bedrooms in my house so I can buy them all). Here’s a quick look at the other mattress options available from Leesa Sleep:

Leesa Mattress FAQs

Leesa offers all customers a 100-night sleep trial. This means after you purchase it, you can try it risk-free for 100 nights. If you don't love it, you can return it, no questions asked.

How do the returns work? Leesa's Customer Experience team will work with you to find a local homeless shelter to donate the mattress, if possible. If not, Leesa will help you dispose of the mattress.

The bed in a box mattress is a relatively new phenomenon for consumers. Compressed mattresses have become incredibly popular in the last 5 years due to the explosive growth of new brands like Purple, Casper, Nectar, Tuft & Needle and Leesa.

With all bed in a box mattresses, the basic process is simple. The mattress comes vacuum-sealed in two layers of plastic. After setting up the mattress on your foundation or box spring, you carefully cut the outer layer of plastic and unfold the mattress. Then, you cut the inner plastic layer and allow the mattress to inflate with air. The foams from the mattress can produce a slight odor, so it's best to let your room air out for a few hours.

No, you can't. The Leesa mattress is specifically designed with a comfort and pressure-relieving top layer foam and a dense, solid core bottom layer to add stability and support.

As of this writing, the prices for all of Leesa's queen mattresses are as follows:

  • Leesa Original Queen Mattress: $999
  • Leesa Hybrid Queen Mattress: $1,699
  • Leesa Legend Queen Mattress: $1,999
  • Leesa Studio Mattress: $699

While there are many great memory foam mattress options out there, you would be hard-pressed to find a memory foam mattress that is a better value than the Leesa Original. With tens of thousands of 5-star customer reviews, a beautifully-designed cover and premium, American-made foams, the Leesa Original has solidified itself as one of the top foam mattresses on the market, year after year.

It should come as no surprise that we think the Sapira Hybrid is the best hybrid mattress on the market in 2022. It is an incredible value for money when compared to some of the other bed-in-a-box companies like Casper, Purple, Nectar and Tuft and Needle. Wirecutter has also named the Leesa Hybrid their top mattress pick for several years running now, so there is considerable validation in the market that this is a top choice.

Leesa does offer discounts on its mattresses a few times a year during the big sales events. However, using our links, you are assured to always be getting the best discount on all Leesa mattresses.

When comparing the Leesa Hybrid to Purple's Hybrid 3 mattress, there are a few things to note.

Purple's Hybrid mattress leverages their Comfort Grid technology. While innovative-looking, this is also a very different feel that a lot of people have trouble getting used to. The Purple Hybrid 3 has an average customer rating of 4.4 vs. 4.6 for the Leesa Hybrid. Lastly, the Purple Hybrid comes in at $2,300 for a queen, vs. $1,699 with discount for a Leesa Hybrid Mattress. To us, there are too many factors to overcome to choose Purple over Leesa.

Casper's hybrid mattress, the Wave Hybrid, just seems absurdly expensive for what is essentially a more hyped up version of the Leesa Hybrid. The Casper Hybrid is a staggering $2,895 for a queen, with optional $500 "Snow Technology," a cooling gel add-on that is widely known in the industry to be a markup gimmick. Casper's customer reviews are also hard to discern. It's this reason that, we, along with Wirecutter and many others, choose the Leesa Hybrid over the Purple Hybrid or Casper Hybrid.
