After unboxing my Jolie Filtered Showerhead, I was able to install it simply by unscrewing my old shower head, wrapping the pipe in Jolie's plumber's tape, and screwing on my new, Jolie Showerhead (with the help of the included wrench). All in, the process took me less than 5 minutes, and I was ready to dive in.
While some of my results appeared gradually (shinier hair, softer, more hydrated skin, increased curl capacity), others were clear and pretty immediate. For example, I noticed a major reduction in the hard water stains on my other shower finishes, and as a blonde who enjoys the occasional boost of brightening summertime highlights, I've had to worry less about brassiness, and color care maintenance than I ever have before.
I've also noticed that my skin is more receptive to my skincare – which is great because I tend to invest more for the moisturizers and treatments that work best for me, even if they are on the higher end, price-wise. About Jolie Skin Co.
If the name Ryan Babenzien sounds familiar, that could be because Jolie Skin Co is not the only brand on this founder's belt. Jolie is Babenzien's latest endeavor, but he is also the former CEO and founder of coveted shoe brand Greats – which he sold to Steve Madden back in 2019. After suffering from perpetual dry skin and not being able to figure out why, Babenzien began to consider water quality as the root of the problem and took a closer look.
“I started doing research and realized that water is, sadly, very contaminated across the country,” says Babenzien. “That was the moment where the idea of starting a beauty wellness brand that addresses the purity of your water for better skin, hair, and well-being was born.”
In partnership with co-founder Arjan Singh, Babenzien designed the Jolie Filtered Showerhead to filter 85% of chlorine and heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury, and chromium out of your shower water for about three months. These compounds are commonly found in water across North America and negatively impact our skin and hair.
According to Jolie, the reasoning is simple. "Virtually all of our water is disinfected with chlorine to kill bacteria such as e.coli or salmonella — something we definitely don't want in the shower with us. However, that chlorine doesn't need to be there when we shower as it irritates our skin & hair, fundamentally contributing to dry skin, damaged hair, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, hives, change in hair color, you name it. Long story, short... the water ain't that clean."
